The Cowboys aren't in Dallas per se, but they're definitely in the MetroPlex. Frisco (Pizza Hut Park) is not. Not even close. It's out in the wilderness. If you look at a map of the DFW area, Frisco isn't even on it. It's way north. The first time I went to PHP, I almost missed the game 'cause I couldn't find the stadium. The Cowboys are right on the interstate, smack between Fort Worth and Dallas. The baseball team is also right on the interstate, in a heavily populated area. Basketball, ditto. Hopefully the long term will pay off for HSG, but a downtown stadium is really the only way to go for future clubs.

i meant Club America. and the only reason i mention the LA teams is because i live in LA.

but i have another question how many of the said Dallas teams actually are in the city of Dallas? obviously FC Dallas isn't but neither is the Cowboys. hopefully we can market better so more people can come out, and right about now Kenny Coopers idea of going door to door sounds like a good idea to possibly help fans to some games.

one thing you got to remember though about All fans of mexican league soccer for the locals they'll see there team and for the hardcore groups of the big teams they come from anywhere, i know heard through a buddy of mine that about 3 buses worth of American fans traveled from LA to Houston to see them, and the game before that(Chelsea) about 6 buses worth of people went to the bay area to see them play against Chelsea.

MLS is not quite there yet with fans, sure i know there are groups that travel but there not as huge in numbers as the followers of Mexican teams and european teams and you also got to remember there are centuries of history with these teams that are playing and the league is so young, all in due time i hope.

and as for making a latin acquisition Chivas USA when they had Palencia, Ramirez and Garcia. that still did not help them with attendence unless they were giving out something free for the fans and that boosted the numbers by a couple hundred more but still no sellouts except for when they played the Galaxy.

to be quite honest, i think the stadium was built where it was to cater to the large number of relatively wealthy "all- american" soccer families located in the plano/ frisco area, which isn't exactly the hispanic "hub" of the dfw area. however, i think fcd's level of play and the mls' in general will do the best job at filling seats at php.

im still mad about the move to Frisco, at the chivas game that were a ton of mexican american fans. however, I bet almost all of them have never been to a FCD game. the stadium makes no sense, the drive is to far and it should have been located closer to dallas to pull in the support. terrible move by the organization and FCD hasnt been the same ever since the move. and I can tell you that atmosphere is terrible and the players im sure dont feel inspired sometimes.

Dallas hasn't been a Hispanic soccer market since they moved to Southlake. One of the dumbest all-time marketing moves ever.

Marco,

I think that is speculation by Dure. The story we heard at the time they announced the MLS teams that were participating was that they chose the two regular season conference champions of 2006 (DC and FCD), and the MLS Champs of 2006(Hou) and 2005(LA).

In the end, we all know that the selection was marketing driven and that they would shoe horn a rationalization for any choice of MLS squads that they came up with. The irony of it all is that SUM still considers Dallas a "hispanic" market even though HSG has not ever since they purchased the club.

Interesting note from Dure explaining how FCD got the SuperLiga invite in the first place. Apologies for posting if this had already been put out there, but I hadn't heard this before:

"This year, SuperLiga starts with four teams from each league. Quinn says each league took the three teams with the most championships at home and invited a fourth. For MLS, the championship teams are D.C. United, Los Angeles and Houston (counting the Dynamo's championships when the team was based in San Jose). FC Dallas was invited to showcase the team's good form and relatively new stadium."
