It is Texas rivalry week, part two.
Juan Toja spent much of the Argentine summer wondering about his future. Just a year earlier he had realized the dream of playing for River Plate, one of South America’s most storied clubs, and he seemingly owned the world. He began his tenure with appearances in five Copa Libertadores matches and netted a game-winning golazo during tournament play. Yet his performance wasn’t enough to secure him minutes with River’s first team.
Hey FC Dallas fans, half of your 2007 regular season is done. As they say, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” Once again Dallas (FC or Burn) is sitting about .500 as the hot summer months are here.
Juan Toja’s follow-up goal off the rebound from a shot by Clarence Goodson was the difference in Dallas’ first trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The game featured few chances for either side, but the cards flew in abundance as another page was written in Dallas’ rivalry with Colorado.
FC Dallas continues their regular season mastery of the Colorado Rapids.
Dallas plays Colorado tonight; Moor is going to Chamo land; and FC Dallas has a new theme song.
The Rapids were off to a dream start for the 2007 season after a dominant performance against a DC United team fresh off a strong showing in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The second game also produced a fantastic effort, as the Rapids played down a man for most of the match and still managed a draw. However, the following match against FC Dallas was a disaster.
FC Dallas defender Drew Moor has been named to the 22-man roster that will compete in the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley. Moor, who is looking for his first cap with the senior side, last played for the US on the U-20 team that lost to Argentina 2-1 (overtime) in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates. Moor will join the U.S. team in Chicago on Sunday afternoon after FC Dallas plays at Colorado this weekend.. The U.S. team will depart on Monday, June 25 for Maracaibo, Venezuela.
