Donovan in Hoops?
June 16th, 2007 . 9:40 pm . By: Buzz CarrickAt half-time of the New York Red Bulls game agaisnt the Kansas City Wizards, Shep Messing says that LA is looking to dump cap to bring in some players. To do that, Messing says, the Gals are shopping around Landon Donovan and want to swap him for Carlos Ruiz. So would you or wouldn’t you? 19 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Yes for talent, but no because as finicky as he is he wouldn’t be happy anywhere but California and nothing but drama would follow
Heck Yes!
Landon may be upset at the move at first, but look at how many athletes have come to Dallas from different areas and have decided to put down roots here. Is Landon married? If not, all we need to do is get him together with Mike Modano and let Mike show him the ropes and all the hot babes that can be reeled in here. He’ll be hooked and will never want to leave.
no, the way i see it all happening next season for the Galaxy is that they trade for some of more allocation dollars and then use it to keep LandyCakes…
which in fact will be the same way a bunch of teams keep some of their stars since those allocation dollars run out around the beginning of next season
If it really is there, do it. It is a no-brainer.
Both Landon and Modano are married. Landycakes wouldn’t give FCD 100% as he ia a So Cal *****.
no. he is overrated and he showed us a meltdown in the worldcup. as someone on this here site said a few weeks ago, the only sure things in MLS are Ruiz and Twellman will score goals. Donovan isnt that good. besides, why would the galaxy want to get Ruiz back in exchange for Donovan if landon is so good? theyve seen both players and know ruiz is better
Nate,
Donovan has 3 MLS titles in 6 seasons (plus an Open Cup title). Ruiz has 1 MLS title in 5 seasons. Twellman has none.
No way, I much rather have the ball at Ruiz’s feet when the game is on the line.
Chamo,
Donavan is not soley responsible for those championships, and Ruiz is hardly to blame for the lack of one in Dallas.
I’m with Christian. Give me Ruiz anyday and everyday.
Absolutely do it! Coop plays well with Landy.
Xanthippas,
that goes without saying. However, you can’t deny that both players have been the “go to” guys on their respective teams, and in that situation Donovan has come through more times when it really counts than Ruiz has.
I get the feeling that the question posed by Buzz while fun is incomplete. If it were posed as: Which would you prefer?
1) Ruiz plus the yet to be named DP that is a world class attacking mid/withdrawn forward.
2) Donovan with our current forwards minus Ruiz.
I would likely choose option 1. But if option 1 isn’t in the cards, you already know what I would choose.
Yes, make it happen….but wait…what are we giving up to make it happen? I don’t think we are talking LD for Ruiz straight up are we? Buzz??
well to be honest I don’t think this is a deal that will be going down.
But it is still a fun question to consider. For my money I would do the deal.

i think ruiz is the better soccer player straight out. watch him: whenever the ball comes to him, whether mls or in international, somebody ends up on the ground. if its him, he draws a foul. if its the other guy, he’s already sprinting towards goal. he does it all. and if you think hes a diva, wait till little boy landon would come.
HEY BOFA,
those so cal ****** you talked about…have more championship trophies than you in dallas…if being a so cal **** means winning trophies and not haveing to say shoulda, woulda, coulda…i’ll take it
yeah. who scored for la galaxy in overtime in their only win? carlos Ruiz. after donovan got there, even Chivas was the better cali team. and statistically, so cals are 87% more likely than texans to be gay. just thought id bring that up
not going to happen The Galaxy signed Pavon of Honduras today.
and the Galaxy have won 2 championships off the feet of a Guatemalan player.
