Cooper Out Eight Weeks with Broken Leg

June 9th, 2007 . 9:15 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Cooper Injured (Ethan Johnson)

Kenny Cooper has suffered a broken tibia courtesy of a Tyrone Marshall tackle late in the game against Los Angeles.  Initial estimate from the doctors at PHP is the FCD striker will be out eight weeks.

“I feared the worst when I saw and heard the tackle,” said FC Dallas head coach Steve Morrow. “Kenny’s a guy that fights through those things and I knew it was serious when he couldn’t continue. So, its takes the shine off a good night for us and a good win. The thoughts of us and all the players right now are with Kenny. We’re obviously devastated for him and it’s a big loss for the whole team as well.”

Marshall received a straight red card for the tackle.  This is the third broken leg suffered on a tackle by a player in FC Dallas history, the first two Ronnie O’Brien and Brandon Pollard, at the hands of Dema Kovalenko.

Cooper was taken to the Baylor Medical Center at PHP for an immediate diagnosis that was communicated the FCD staff and the waiting media immediately following the game.

FCD is now desperately short on strikers with experience as Carlos Ruiz remains with Guatemala for the Gold Cup and Kenny Cooper now joining Roberto Mina on the inured list. Perhaps this injury will accelerate the possible addition of the young Brazilian striker Ricardinho from Atletico Paranaense.

Our prayers should be with Kenny and his family at this time. It’s very difficult for a young player to deal injury/rehab but Kenny will get through it.
    Blessings,

A hard foul in the last couple minutes….ridiculous. Suspension to follow, hopefully.

I’m with you all. My hopes and prayers are with Kenny and his family.

The tackle was a blatent attempt to at least cause injury. Marshall had no shot at getting the ball. For him to slide into Kenny’s legs like that with so little time remaining shows no class and a complete disregard for other players. To add insult to injury, Marshall had the gaul to argue with the ref about the call. Marshall definitely deserves a fine and a multi-game suspension for his actions.

    From an out-of-towner:
I agree with the suspension talk. I certainly hope Leonard doesn’t play many games in the 8 weeks that Cooper is out.

    My prayers for Kenny.

though it would never happen, i’ve always felt that if a foul is ruled to have been intentional, that the player should be out at least a year OR at least as long as the player he injured (whichever is shorter)

hey, whats with the guatemalan comment? anyway this really sucks without kenny and Ruiz, oduro and thompson really need to come foward and play their best. Hope kenny gets better.

I am going to guess that the Guatemala comment was that we want Guatemala to lose so that ruiz can come back to dallas- didn’t seem to be anything against them

agreed, i don’t think the poster is a guatemala hater, but we do need the fish back at our pond, and a trip to the quarters would only extend his time away. not to mention, that he has not always returned in the most timely fashion. Freaking marshall, that was a horrendous tackle, and i hope they punish him to the fullest extent.

Marshall should be suspended until FCD plays LA again and we can garner our own form of justice

Sorry, did not mean to offend the Guatemala Supporters. I just want to see Ruiz returned to our side ASAP and healthy.

I thought he looked good against the US last week.

“French striker Trezeguet to leave Juventus”

We still have not used out DP slot?

All we have to do is get the rumor monster started, then ya never know.

lol. didnt wanted to make sound like that but i did i guess, you might know by now im a guatemalan fan so it is important for me and my country that guatemala plays their best to have a good chance of winning the gold cup, its hard but not impossible, i know FCD is in a bad position with the strikers but you know how it works, i want the best for my country, for now the best thing to do is not to wish guatemala to loose but to wish the thompson and oduro to play their best and represent FCD as best as they can.

Dom & Abe looked very good to me on Satuday and with Ruiz returning soon and the additiopn of Richardiho I think we are just fine at forward. Good thing Morrow built depth there, we should be fine. I’m more worried about Goodson’s injury, if he misses a few games we have no decent cover.
