Callups Galore

May 21st, 2007 . 12:13 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

FCD is about to be hit with a ton of call ups in the next few weeks and it could get worse if Cooper get tapped again.

- Liberia has called in Chris Gbandi for a pair of games in June. Gbandi’s been playing some fabulous ball, nice reward for him.

- Guatemala has called in Carlos Ruiz for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.  Not a shock there.  Gold Cup is in the month of June.  Give or take June 6 to 24.  Ruiz is leaving this week and may not be back until the end of June.

- The U.S. U-20 team has called in Anthony Wallace for a camp that is expected to begin in the last days of May. Um, no Dax or Blake?  Of the three FCD players in the U20 mix, Wallace is the least ready and and the least likely to see the field for FCD, yet he is the one who is a lock for the U20s.  I don’t even know where to begin.  U20 Worlds are June 30 to July 22.

- The Ghana U-23 team has called in Dominic Oduro for a game against Nigeria. This is the first call for Dominic for his country’s national teams.  Congratulations young man.

- And we should probably all expect Cooper to get called at least into US camp again for either the Gold Cup or Copa America.  As mentioned Gold Cup is in June, Copa America is June 28 to July 5th for the opening round.

- Last but not least it’s looking more and more likely that we may not see Abdus Inrahim even in training until after the U17s worlds later in the year.  U17 Worlds are Aug 18 to Sept 9.

(Thanks to FCD PR for much of this info)

The only thing missing are the dates of these absences.

It is good, and bad, to see this many of our players on their Nation Team radar.

Yikes, assuming Cooper and Ruiz go to Gold Cup and Oduro goes to Ghana for a week, that leaves Abe and Alvarez up top… and then… Scott Jones?

Donovan quoted as saying he will be with LA till June 2nd… so IF Cooper called probably same time line.
