Power Rankings: Week 6

We’re in the middle of week seven right now and this last week we’ve seen the West take some revenge on the Eastern conference, as the West’s top teams, Colorado and Dallas, won away games at the elite of the East in New York and Kansas City. The one stronghold in the East is New England who are at the top of the heap this week. Another big win at LA keeps the Revs rolling along, with Taylor Twellman lighting the league on fire. New York drops to second this week after a tough week with losses to Colorado in league play and Los Angeles in Open Cup play, good thing no one was on hand to see their loss to Colorado. It’ll be interesting to see how they responds with a decent Columbus team coming to town this weekend. FC Dallas made a big statement this week with two road wins on the bounce. As I wrote last week, the Kansas City game would be very telling of the team we’ll see this year out of Dallas with Sala back and Ricchetti in the middle and Dallas passed the test with flying colors. Perhaps the biggest surprise though has been the stellar play of Juan Toja who’s quietly making an early case for MLS Best XI. Kansas City drops two spots to fourth after their loss to Dallas. It was the Eddie Johnson we’ve all come to known as he wasted numerous opportunities in front of goal. They really missed Jimmy Conrad in the defense as well, but there’s no need for Wizards fans to panic, they’ll be fine. Colorado rises one spot after grabbing all three points at New York. These points will come up big later in the season when Los Angeles and Houston are playing better soccer and challenging for the top spots. Chicago drops two spots after a really tough week for them. Losses to Toronto and Dallas have left the once high flying Fire in the middle of the table. Blanco really can’t arrive fast enough for Chicago as Chris Rolfe has been all their offense this season. Houston comes in at seventh this week after losing in Toronto. It’s not quite panic time for Houston yet, but it’s darn sure getting close. You can almost bet the house they’ll be signing a forward in the transfer window as they’ve scored in just 3 of their 7 games this year and their four goals scored on the season is tied for worst in the league. Columbus and DC United are eighth and ninth this week. Not too much to say about either team. Guille Schellotto is looking like he came to play which bodes well for Columbus. DC has what’s looking like a suddenly difficult game at Toronto this weekend to try to pull themselves out of last place. Los Angeles drops to tenth after losing at home to the Revolution. Galaxy fans can take heart that their team at least played well, and a momentary slip up cost them at least a point. Toronto is the surprise team of the week, finally rising out of last place in the East. They’ll be in the playoff hunt at the end of the season simply because BMO Field is hands down the toughest away game in the league. Chivas and RSL round out the table with Chivas hosting LA and RSL traveling to Dallas this weekend. 2 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

thank you for not placing KC at the three spot…too many people rank the wizards way too high…the four spot may even be too high but for the most part your rankings are spot on!
Chicago gas played 7 games, you may want to recheck all your numbers.
