According to 3rd Degree sources, FC Dallas is considering trading want away Irish midfielder Ronnie O’Brien. A deal was in discussion yesterday to send O’Brien to Toronto in exchange for an allocation and a ‘pass’ on any other FCD player in the expansion draft. 3rd Degree has been unable at this time to confirm the status of the proposed trade. With a temporary roster freeze and a “no trade” window going into effect yesterday at 5 PM ET until after the expansion draft, FCD may have to wait to move O’Brien.

O’Brien’s agent Pat McCabe was in Dallas last week trying to broker a deal to get his client out of town. Sources close to the team and player have indicated O’Brien is very unhappy and has sold his house in Dallas. Most of the player’s dissatisfaction can be traced to Colin Clarke, stemming from an altercation that saw the player benched early in the season. Would a new coach from outside the current setup change the players outlook, or are the relationships beyond repair between FCD and O’Brien, making it just a matter of time before the player is moved?

O’Brien has two MLS option years left on the contract he signed prior to the 2005 season.
